Bridge on Drina river

Bridge of Mehmed Paša Sokolović that is located in Višegrad was built in the 16th century by Mimar Sinan, the most famous architect of Ottoman Empire. This is the bridge that has a book devoted to it, a famous novel Bridge over Drina river by Ivo Andrić, Nobel prize winner for Literature. Drina is a bordering river between Bosnia&Herzegovina and Serbia and multiple times was a place of direct conflicts, during WWI, WWII and recent Bosnian war from 1992 to 1995. We will cover all of that, historical facts, life of Mehmed Paša Sokolović, Ivo Andrić and significance of the bridge through the dark times.

After the walk we will visit a nearby Andrićgrad, a small city that was built partially by Emir Kusturica, a famous film director, and that will show you architectural styles of the region.

On the way back we will stop for on the lake to enjoy the purity of the nature and to cover some additional aspects of eastern Bosnia.
