Eastern spirits – villages of Goražde

Brandy making in Bosnia and Herzegovina was perfected over the centuries, now you can try delicious plum, apple or pear rakija that is produced in eastern region of this country. Here we can also find a sweet version of rakija, cherry liqueur, and we won’t miss the opportunity to taste it.

Fruits are hand picked, stored in huge barrels and then fermented. During the process of rakija making hand-made stoves are used for heating up and distillation. The product will pinch your throat and heat up lungs and stomach. Perfect for cold days, or as aperitif with local food. For this we will go to Goražde city, and small villages located around it. Goražde is located on the banks of Drina river, so we will enjoy the calmness of the water, and we won’t miss the opportunity to tell you a bit more about this small town.

When we reach the village our host will take us on a tour of his property and show us the process of rakija making. Then we will enjoy the nature and have a taste of excellent homemade products, beside rakija. After the tasting we will go and walk through the woods, maybe even have time to pick up some herbs and fruits along the way. This might be one of the most laugh filling trips you’ll do while in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
